The beautiful and sophisticated Buddhist Statues of Kyoto are too numerous to count. From Kyoto’s most famous temples, to those off the beaten path, you’ll see firsthand an array of exquisite Buddhist Statues.

Nara is a treasure trove of Buddhist Statues, many of which predate those of Kyoto. You’ll never forget your silent moment face to face with the Buddhas of Nara.

Buddhist Statues on the outskirts of Kyoto (walking Tour)

To the south of Kyoto, you’ll visit Joruri-ji and Gansen-ji Temples in the city of Kizugawa. While strolling from Joruri-ji to Gansen-ji Temple (approx. 4 km), you’ll admire the stone Buddhist statues along the way. These Buddhas, quietly enshrined in the rich natural beauty of the temples, are sure to take your breath away.

Visit Todaiji Temple and Kasuga Grand Shrine, then stroll through Nara Park, where you’ll be greeted by friendly deer along the way. Choose the perfect spot and try your hand at Nihonga (Japanese Painting). Students from Kyoto City University of Arts will join to lend a helping hand. The hues of Nihonga are uniquely different from oil painting, and your small masterpiece will make the perfect memento of your trip!

AOKIGAHARA FOREST WALK

At the foot of Mount Fuji lies Aokigahara, a sea of trees stretching out over the volcanic rock of a 1,200 year old eruption. This primordial forest is a registered natural monument. Here, you will hike through the forest and explore a volcanic cave where temperatures remain a frosty 3°C (37°F) even in summer, and where  the patterns created by the lava flows are still clearly visible today.

FRUIT PICKING in yamanashi

Fruit production is so prominent in Yamanashi, it has even been called “the Fruit Kingdom.” Here, you can pick fruit nearly all year round. The seasons include: Strawberries (December-May); Cherries (June); Peaches (June-September); Grapes (May-October). After picking your own delicious fruit, treat yourself to a traditional local meal.
