At the foot of Mount Fuji lies Aokigahara, a sea of trees stretching out over the volcanic rock of a 1,200 year old eruption. This primordial forest is a registered natural monument. Here, you will hike through the forest and explore a volcanic cave where temperatures remain a frosty 3°C (37°F) even in summer, and where the patterns created by the lava flows are still clearly visible today.
Fruit production is so prominent in Yamanashi, it has even been called “the Fruit Kingdom.” Here, you can pick fruit nearly all year round. The seasons include: Strawberries (December-May); Cherries (June); Peaches (June-September); Grapes (May-October). After picking your own delicious fruit, treat yourself to a traditional local meal.
